The winery
During the second half of the 20th century Erdutski vinogradi d.o.o were a part of the Agro-Industrial Combine Osijek (IPK Osijek). Within the IPK Osijek the foundation was laid for the current development of Erdutski vinogradi d.o.o. The largest plantation vineyard in Croatia was shaped.
The construction of the new winery with a capacity of 6 million litres was initiated in 1980. The new winery was opened in 1984. Since the beginning it has been geared towards the production of wine from our own grapes and buying back from individual small grape growers.
During the construction of the new winery, the board of managers wanted to construct a recognizable symbol for the entire Erdut wine-making area. The new symbol was meant to encompass the traditions of older times and connect it to the Erdut terroir. It was decided that the largest wine barrel in the world should be constructed. It was fabricated from Slavonian oak in 1989 bay DIK Đurđenovac. It was made with the traditional method of chopping oak planks from a total od 109 oak trees. The barrel takes up 75 000 litres which makes it the largest wine barrel in use in the world. It is always full of graševina, because graševina is the symbol of the whole wine-making area, as well as the company Erdutski vinogradi d.o.o.
